With its many coastal areas, many Devon events, naturally, are based around water. When sporting is your interest, and you are a water enthusiast to boot, Devon is going to be destination place of your dreams. One of the most noted of all water-related Devon events is the Plymouth Summer Festival which boasts one of the best known powerboating events in the country. And for more terrestrial sporting events, there are a variety of cycling races and always a local rugby match to take in.
If food and fine dining are more your forte, head to Exeter in April to take in the Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink. Here, all the top chefs from around the region come together to offer some of the finest dining the UK has to offer - all in one place. With the stunning Northenhay Gardens and Exeter Castle as the backdrop for this gastronomic event, this is a feast for all the senses.
For the music lover, one is sure to want to take part in the world renowned Sidmouth FolkWeek, held in August of each year. Here folk artists from around the world come together for a week of fun. From music, of course, to great food, dancing lessons, and activities for the kids, this is a great getaway for the folk music lover.
To the the downright strange, Devon events even go as far as bug hunting events or, if you dare, a sleepover with the sharks. Each year, the town of Blackawton hosts an annual "Worm Charming Festival" whereby they use temptations (often of the libation variety) to lure as many worms out of the ground as possible in the alloted amount of time. Never fear, though this event is very strange, worms are rarely harmed, and upon the conclusion of the event, they are returned back from where they came.
