Shaldon Village
Shaldon is a quaint Georgian village on the banks of the river Teign Estuary. It has an old world charm with its winding back streets and pretty thatched cottages. There are two beaches one on the river and one which is approached through a "Smugglers Tunnel". You can relax in the village or explore the surrounding area with wonderful walks close by or just a short drive to Dartmoor. Teignmouth and its beaches are just across the river and are approached by a passenger ferry service which dates back to the tenth century.
Several small shops will provide all your needs if you are self catering and there are excellent cafes, restaurants and pubs, all with great food, wines and local beers.
There are plenty of activities including sailing, boat trips (Dolphins are sometimes seen), we have an 18 hole approach golf course and a full course nearby. A bowling green is in the centre of the village. You might like to visit our small zoo or just relax on the beach or enjoy the local pubs and restaurants.
From May to September there is a "1785 Day" Craft Fair on the green followed in the evening by entertainment for the children and a one act play with audience participation. During June there is an international music festival. At the start of August we have the Shaldon Water Carnival then a nine day Regatta ending on Bank Holiday Monday.
Please check our events page for more information.
There is a good selection of Bed & Breakfast, Self Catering and small Hotels and with plenty of things to suit all, Shaldon is a perfect choice to visit.
