To take in some rich history, visit one of Devon’s many National Trust Properties

The area of Devon, situated in the south west region of the United Kingdom is a land steeped with rich history. Many of these buildings and areas have been set up as national trust properties, which keeps them well maintained and open to the public for posterity. There are a good number of wonderful, history filled Devon national trust properties, which make Devon a great place to visit for the closet or avid history buff.

From the strange to truly historic, there is a lot to see when you take a tour of the many Devon national trust properties. In the town of Exmouth, you can visit a 16-sided house, with many of its original contents and decor that dates back to 1796 and is certainly not a building you would see everyday.

Devon national trust properties are not all buildings though. In the city of Dartmouth, you can visit a sheltered garden, built along the coast and see nature in all its splendor, as intended. In Okehampton, there is a beautiful and protected gorge that runs for a mile and a half, making for a wonderful, historical ramble back in time.

In the city of Plymouth, what is now the NT Information Center is housed in what was once a sea captains house built in the Tudor design. For a bit of industrial history, check out a water powered forge, dating back to the 19th century in Okehampton. For a bit of medieval history, check out a medieval manor house kept in good shape in the town of Newton Abbot.

This is not, by any means, and exhaustive list of Devon national trust properties, but rather, a nice selection that attempts to illustrate the huge variety of options that have significant historical value. If you are a history buff, these sites make great destinations as there is a lot of history encompassed in some of the buildings, dating back many hundreds of years in the past, and preserved for posterity so that all can see how things once were.
